Wayne enlisted in the Army and was trained as a broadcast journalist at the U.S. Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.  He was assigned to the American Forces Korea Network where he served as the television anchor for two years.

He was commissioned a second lieutenant and served as a public affairs officer, aide de camp, detachment commander and executive officer with the Hawaii Army National Guard.  He was the State Civil Defense media relations and operations spokesperson during Hurrican Iniki.  He also served at the Pentagon on the Army Staff (1994-1997) and deployed to Afghanistan (2005-2006) for one year as a public affairs detachment commander.  He retired from active duty in 2007.

Awards and Decorations:  Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Reserve Component Achievement, Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal and more than a dozen other campaign and service ribbons including the Army Staff Identification Badge and Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan Unit Citation.
